William Jennings Pay Voucher
This Confederate pay voucher, written on Form No. 3 (Officers Pay Account), documents Captain William Jennings' pay from September 1, 1862 through November 28, 1862. Captains were paid $140.00 per month, so Jennings received a total of $410.67 for his service during this period. Receipt of delivery signed on the pay voucher places Captain Jennings in Knoxville, Tennessee on April 13, 1863.
William King Papers
William King wrote four of the five letters in this collection to his family in Sapling Grove, Virginia to tell them about his service in the Mexican-American War. Sam Anderson wrote the final letter to inform King's family of his death on board a ship bound for home. Also included are two newspaper clippings describing the letters and their contents.
William Klice Letter
This collection contains a letter written by William Klice to his father and mother on September 7,1862. Klice was a Union soldier in the 7th Missouri Volunteers, Company A. In the letter he describes skirmishes on the Mississippi Central Railroad and at Medon Station, Tenn.

William Lenoir Letter to James Plunket
In this letter, William Lenoir informs James Plunket that he will not be traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio, as he had expected and so will not be able to visit Plunket in Nashville. He also asks Plunket to write to a machinist that he had mentioned on Lenoir's behalf.

William M. Cloer Letter
William M. Cloer, a private in the 62nd North Carolina Infantry (CSA), wrote this letter to friends at home from Morristown, Tennessee on June 24, 1863. He discusses recent Yankee raids in Tennessee, specifically those made during the push towards Knoxville, and his regiment's upcoming move to Cumberland Gap.
William M. House Collection
This material documents some of William M. House's military service in World War II, especially with the 94th Troop Carrier Squadron. Included is a reunion program for the squadron alongside a letter July 1982 from Lt. Col. Thomas F. Corrigan from 1982. Additionally there is an undated booklet entitled "D-Day to V-E-Day."
William M. Hudgens Papers
This collection contains photocopies of material documenting the World War II military service of William Hudgens. Included are newspaper clippings regarding Hudgens' service, awards, and status as missing in action; a photograph of Hudgens alongside other soldiers; and the 1946 memorial edition of The Tennessee Alumnus which lists Hudgens.
William M. Russell Letter
In this letter to Dr. James Gower, William Russell (then near Nashville) reports that during his visit to Tennessee he has seen disease [cholera] in its most agonizing form and the minister of death in his blackest habiliments. As a result of this outbreak, the people are panicked and Russell expects a perfect stampede. He goes on to report on former President Polk's baptism, death, and burial and closes by asking his cousin for news from home.
William Moffat Letter
The William Moffat Letter, 1823, contains a letter from Moffat to Mr. James Dodson in Grainger County, Tenn., regarding the education of Thomas and William (possibly the author's sons). A short, attached letter from Thomas to his mother contains information about school as well.

This collection includes a land indenture dated March 24, 1824 signed by William Polk. The indenture is handwritten and is one page.

William Quail Johnston Notebooks
William Quail Johnston used the first notebook in this collection while he was a student in the University of Tennessee's Pharmacy program between 1900 and 1903. It consists primarily of instructions for mixing various medicines and creams, including the names and amounts of the requisite chemicals. Johnston compiled the second notebook, which contains instructions for mixing various cleansers, beauty aids, and medicines, while working for the Market Square Drug Company.
